Skiing in Northern Michigan,
March 2003

The first is of the group (L-R): Bob, Susan, Dave, Debbie, Annaleise, Tom, and me, as we began our cross-country ski trek around the Schuss Village trails. Martin also joined us for the weekend but he wasn't able to ski because of a recent ankle injury, so you'll just have to imagine him there as well. Unfortunately there aren't any pictures from our shortcut hiking up the back side of the mountain and then trying to make it down the slopes to the lodge on cross-country skis. I don't recommend trying that.
Here are a few shots from a sort of contest being held at the bottom of the slopes. The object is to ski down the hill, through all the gates, and then cross the water hazard. Many people didn't make it across however, which is what made it so entertaining.

The following day some of us spent the afternoon at Boyne Mountain doing a little downhill skiing and trying to avoid frostbite (as if we weren't already sore enough from the cross- country). The spiced wine and hot cocoa with schnapps in the hilltop lodge did help make the cold more bearable.
