6. James R. Maxwell

James' service record shows he was 6 feet one-half inches tall, had dark hair and hazel eyes, and had a dark complexion. The record also states he was born in IN, however, all other sources say KY. He enlisted 22 Aug 1861 at St. Joseph MO, and mustered into the 13th infantry regiment. He was captured and paroled, and then the 13th regiment was reformed into the 25th., and he was shot shortly before he died.
The official death record states he died of dysentery, probably contacted in the hospital while he was recuperating from a bullet wound in the hip. However, another records says he died on the hospital boat at Pittsburg Landing TN on 15 Apr 1862. Yet another record states that he died in the hospital at St. Joseph MO on 24 Apr 1862. The only thing in agreement is the year!
No record is found of him being buried at Shiloh TN.

Addendum, 1993:
Robert was living as a boarder in Worth Co MO in 1910, evidently the landlady did not know how old he was or where he had been born. In 1920, he was living with his cousin, John Barnes, who seemed to know both age and birthplace.

29. Robert C. Maxwell

Robert never married. He lived with his mother until her death, then with his cousin, John Barnes. Mary E. (Malson) Harner, who was a cousin from Albany, was the informant for his death certificate. Burial was supposedly at Kent Cem., but there is no stone.
In the petition for pension, Matilda states his birthdate as 7 Oct 1850. She did not seem sure of any of their birthdates, and did change Allen's in a later petition.
