Aspen Season in
Colorado, 9/28/03
Although I have lived in
Colorado for over 4 years now, it wasn't until
yesterday that i finally got a chance to see the actual peak of aspen
season. The problem is that the REAL peak only lasts about a week or
so, before and after which time you might see some yellow stuff here
and there, but it's not nearly as impressive.
So anyway, I drove
up to the peak-to-peak with Diana (my girlfriend) yesterday to see what
we could see. Our route was highway 36 to Estes Park, and then 72 down
through Allenspark, Ward, almost to Nederland, and then back to Boulder
via Gold Hill. Here's a sampling of what we saw:

This kind of gives an idea of how stark the
aspen are against the preponderance of pines.

Somewhere near
Allenspark; everybody and their mom stops at this spot to take pictures.

Me and Diana obscuring Longs
Peak.

Colorfulness.

Another nice vista between Ward
and Nederland. Notice how many of the aspen stands are already
leaf-less.
