Aspen Season in Colorado, 9/11/04

Here are some pictures from our second annual Colorado Aspen expedition. (You can check out the first one here.) This time we headed up to Guanella Pass, above Georgetown, which is right off of I-70, and only about an hour from Boulder.

Here's what Georgetown looks like from the road up to the pass. For a tourist trap, it's actually a pretty cool place. Note that I took this picture a couple weeks ago, which is why you don't see any yellow.

This time out, it didn't take long for us to find some color.

Back-lighting is always fun.

More backlit leaves.

Diana.

I think this year we went slightly before the peak, as you can still see quite a bit of green. It's a lovely yellowish green, however.

Here we are close to the top of the pass. I believe the tallest peak is Mt. Bierstadt, with Mt. Evans to the left, and the sawtooth in between. If you squint, you can see a tiny bit of snow on Bierstadt.

Some lake on the other side of the pass. Soon after this point, we turned around and retraced our steps...
