Peter the Protestant followed the teaching of John Calvin and was forced to move to France in 1650 as a Huguenot. He married Elizabeth there, and had children. When Louis XIV renounced the Edict of Nantes in Oct 1685 the family was forced to escape to England.
The Rucker family of Virginia begins with the shipwreck off Jamestown with Peter being the only survivor. However, John and Thomas Rucker were heading ship loads of settlers to VA in the 1690's.
John and Thomas each received 5,850 acres of land in 1699 when the normal grant was 50 acres with the option to buy 100 more. John was granted the title of Earl. He was co-founder of St. Mark's Parish.
Peter was naturalized 24 Apr 1704 as a British citizen of Jamestown.
