Elzaphan served in the Revolutionary War with his brothers, all from Culpepper Co, under Captain George Slaughter.

70. Lemuel Rucker


Lemuel enlisted in 1776 in the Revolutionary War. He served as a private, and then sergeant, in Cpt George SlaughterÕs Co, 8th VA Regt., commanded by Col Abraham Bowman, until he was discharged at Valley Forge, PA, sick.
His name first appears on payroll covering a period from May 25 1776 to 30 Apr 1877. He engaged in battles of Brandywine and Germantown. He applied for and was granted pension 7 Jan 1820. (Pension office).
His stone bears the following inscriptionÑÒA Revolutioner of the United States of America. Died in honor 4 March, 1842, aged 91 yearsÓ. On AnnÕs, ÒIn memory of Ann Rucker, consort of Lemuel Rucker, who died Sep 1845Ó.

The records of Monroe Co burned, and the only records left are Bible and family records.

Ann Booten Rucker had a chapter of D.A.R. in OH named after her.
Her parents may have been William and Sallie (Wood) Booten.

He was on his way to the CA gold fields in 1849, by way of ship from New York. The ship was wrecked and Garland was never heard from again.
His partner returned with the exact amount of money Garland had carried. Garland's wife, Sarah Ann, had a Grandmother clock with all wood gears that she brought from VA to OH. Patricia has that clock in her dining room.
